Discover the Historical Significance of Our 4″ x 6″ Betsy Ross Printed Rayon Stick Flag
This flag was adopted on June 14, 1777, also known as Flag Day. On this day, the Continental Congress resolved that “the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes alternating red and white; that the Union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation”.
Design Inspiration
The circular design was created by George Washington, Francis Hopkins, and Betsy Ross. However, the Congress did not specify an arrangement for the stars in the canton, resulting in many variations of the flag until 1912.

Did you know that Betsy Ross, a seamstress and flag maker from Philadelphia, is credited with creating the first American flag in May 1776? According to legend, George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross (Betsy’s uncle) approached her to create a flag for the new nation. After presenting several designs, Betsy Ross convinced them to adopt the now-iconic stars-and-stripes pattern. This design has since become an enduring symbol of American independence and patriotism.
