A Brief History of the Mississippi State Flag
The Mississippi state flag has undergone several changes since its adoption in 1894. The current design features the Confederate battle emblem in the upper left corner, which is a nod to the state’s complex history. The red and blue colors have specific meanings as well – red represents courage, while blue symbolizes justice. The white star in the center of the flag represents Mississippi itself.
