Betsy Ross 2′ x 3′ Outdoor Nylon Flag: A Symbol of American History
This flag, measuring 2′ x 3′, is made from durable outdoor nylon and features sewn and embroidered designs. It was adopted on June 14, 1777 (Flag Day), as resolved by the Continental Congress. The resolution stated that ‘the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes alternating red and white; that the Union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation’.
The circular design was attributed to George Washington, Francis Hopkins, and Betsy Ross. However, the Congress did not specify an arrangement for the stars in the canton, resulting in many variations of flags until 1912.

Did you know that Betsy Ross is often credited with creating the first American flag? According to legend, George Washington and other members of the Continental Congress approached her in May 1776 and presented her with a rough sketch of a flag with 13 alternating red and white stripes and 13 white stars on a blue field. After making several suggestions, including changing the shape of the stars from six-pointed to five-pointed, Ross sewed the first American flag. This historic event paved the way for the adoption of the flag on June 14, 1777.
