A Brief History of the Iraq Flag
In April 2004, a new flag design was proposed but never adopted. Interestingly, at the ceremony on June 28, 2004, when the new interim government of Iraq was sworn into office, a row of flags similar to the 1991 pattern were displayed on stage. These flags featured a more stylized Arabic text in the Kufic script.
Did you know that the current flag was raised at the Iraqi embassy in Washington, D.C. on June 30, 2004? This significant event marked an important milestone in Iraq’s history.
