A Brief History of the North Dakota State Flag
The North Dakota state flag, also known as the ‘Roughrider Flag,’ was designed in 1911 by Dr. Lydia M. Olson. The flag features a blue field with a gold-fringed scarlet stripe running horizontally through the center. In the upper left corner, there’s a white sun with rays extending from it, symbolizing light and wisdom.
The thirteen stars above the stripe represent the original thirteen colonies, while the thirty-one stars below signify North Dakota’s admission as the thirty-first state to the Union. The flag’s design is rich in symbolism, making it a meaningful way to express your state pride.
