A Historical Note on the North Korean Flag
The current design of the North Korean flag, also known as the Ramhongsaek Konghwagukgi, has been in use since 1948. The blue stripes represent sovereignty, peace, and friendship, while the red stripe symbolizes the struggle for independence and revolution. The white circle at the center represents purity and cleanliness. Interestingly, the design of the North Korean flag is often compared to that of South Korea’s flag, with both featuring a tricolor motif – however, the colors hold different meanings in each country.
