A Brief History of the Mexico National Flag
The current design of the Mexico national flag, also known as the Tricolor, was adopted in 1821 after the country gained independence from Spain. The three vertical stripes of green, white, and red represent hope, purity, and the blood of national heroes, respectively. The flag’s origins date back to the Mexican War of Independence, led by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who used a similar tricolor design in his army’s banners.
